Lecture 8 - Flow Routing
Learning Objectives
The student should have
the ability to;
- State the Manning's
equation and variables in the equation.
- Calculate Hydrulic Radius
for the Following Geometries;
- Circular Channel
- Triangular Channel
- Rectangular Channel
- Trapezoidal Channel
- Use the following methods
to route a hydrograph through a channel, pond, or other flow structure;
- Kinematic Wave for
overland flow
- Kinematic Wave for
Triangular, Circular, and Rectangular channels
- Inventory Equation
with know inflow and I-O or S-O relationship
- Muskingum method
with known K and c
- Explain the use of the
storage indicator (N) in inventory routing.
- Use actual inflow and
outflow data to determine the K and c parameters for the Muskingum method.

Suggested Homework
Chapter 8 - many of the
problems in this chapter are lengthy and should be performed to get a feel for
the methodology of routing.
